Custom Made Kadomatsu For Lalaport, Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Kadomatsu are traditional Japanese decorations used to celebrate the New Year. These items, known as yorishiro, are meant to invite ancestral spirits or harvest deities. Typically, kadomatsu are displayed in pairs at the entrance of homes and buildings.
Originally crafted from pine wood, kadomatsu are now more commonly made from bamboo. The design usually features three large bamboo poles at the center, although plastic versions are also available. After assembling the kadomatsu, it is wrapped with straw matting and newly woven straw rope. The decorations are placed in pairs on either side of the gate, symbolizing male and female elements.
Today, kadomatsu are usually displayed from after Christmas until January 7.
This project is a special request from our customer. We made everything from scratch, including the straw mat, according to customer’s requirement.
The Kadomatsu then placed at every entrance of the mall.
